In planning a scavenging job, it is important to know how the H2S partitions between the liquid and the vapor. Hydrogen sulfide levels are often orders of magnitude higher in the vapor than they are in the corresponding liquid. And although most H2S specifications and safety concerns are based on vapor space levels (since the vapor is lethal), it is the liquid that must be treated. Liquid analysis is critical in achieving a given vapor phase specification.
