Cetane quality is relevant to diesel ignition behavior. Additive treatment can be considered when a blend requires adjustment, with the response measured in the fuel for which a recommendation is being made.

Ignition quality, cleanliness, lubricity and cold-flow behavior are separate evaluation criteria. A cetane result alone does not establish changes in vehicle emissions, fuel consumption or engine operation.

• Current ignition-quality results and intended target
• Diesel blend components and other additives
• Refinery or terminal blending arrangements
• Storage conditions and available dosing equipment

Compare representative untreated and treated samples using an agreed ignition-quality test method. Select the treatment recommendation from the observed response, then verify consistent blending and finished-fuel quality.

Starting behavior, smoke and emissions should be assessed with evidence relevant to the engine and operating conditions when these are part of the evaluation objective.
