FCC slurry settling aids

Fine particles can remain suspended in FCC slurry oil and complicate its subsequent use. Settling-aid treatment promotes particle aggregation to support separation of solids from the oil.

Assess treatment within the available settling and solids-handling arrangement. Temperature, residence time and mixing conditions are relevant to the evaluation.

• Solids or ash content and observed settling behavior
• Slurry properties, treatment temperature and separation time
• Recovered-oil requirements and handling of settled solids

Compare settling behavior and recovered-oil quality under documented conditions. Review the amount and character of separated solids alongside the solids remaining in the oil.

Laboratory results should inform a monitored plant evaluation using actual operating constraints and intended downstream use.
