Operating context
A pipeline section constrained the flow available to downstream operations. The operator was considering how to increase delivery within the existing system and selected a field trial to evaluate drag-reducer treatment.
Challenge
The trial addressed distinct operating objectives: reducing pressure loss at a maintained flow, increasing stable throughput, and evaluating a changed pump and station configuration. Each objective required a separate comparison against the relevant baseline.
Evaluation and treatment
Treatment was injected at a station outlet. The team checked dosing and recorded upstream and downstream flow, pressure and temperature. The sequence first examined pressure loss at maintained flow, then increased flow through outlet-valve adjustments. A separate stage assessed station bypass with a primary pump stopped.
Observed results
The case account reports lower frictional resistance and higher stable throughput during treatment. It also records successful station bypass in a separate trial stage. These observations apply to the tested pipeline configurations and operating conditions.
Considérations relatives à l'application
A comparable evaluation should define the operating objective before treatment begins. Baseline flow and pressure, product properties, pump limits and injection conditions need to be recorded together. Changes to pump operation or station routing require review against the pipeline’s operating limits.
