Friction modifiers

Fuel friction modifiers are evaluated as part of gasoline and diesel additive formulations. The objective is to influence friction at contacting metal surfaces, with suitability established for the complete fuel formulation and intended application.

Documented fuel friction-modifier technology uses surface-active chemistry to form a film on metal surfaces and reduce direct contact. The mechanism provides a basis for application testing.

The detergent package and other fuel components remain relevant. Friction modification and deposit control serve different functions and should be considered together when reviewing a complete additive package.
