Application and function

Oxidation can contribute to gum, peroxide and insoluble-material formation. Fuels containing reactive components, including some cracked or high-olefin streams, may require particular attention during blending and storage.

Antioxidant treatment can interrupt oxidation reactions. Starting fuel quality and treatment timing matter. Gasoline, middle-distillate and renewable-fuel blends require individual application reviews.

  • Blend composition and existing oxidation-stability results
  • Storage duration and exposure to air, heat or light
  • Gum, sediment, peroxide or color changes being investigated
  • Other additives and finished-fuel requirements

Evaluate the response

Compare treated and untreated fuel using a stability method suited to the fuel type. Include the quality observations relevant to the application over an appropriate evaluation period.

Use the results to establish a treatment recommendation and addition point. Evaluation should account for the intended storage and distribution conditions.
