Tall Oil Fatty Acids
EcoTall tall oil fatty acids are pine-derived feedstocks for industrial synthesis and formulation. Select from five grades by rosin acids, unsaponifiables, initial color and raw-material low-temperature requirements.

The EcoTall range
L1, L1A and L1S serve low-rosin applications. L1 adds a controlled cloud point, while L1S combines the same cloud-point control with a tighter initial-color limit. L1A is intended for general low-rosin conversion and formulation.
L3 and L5 provide general-purpose options for formulations with less restrictive rosin and color requirements. Select between them by the permitted rosin acid limit and the needs of the complete formulation.
Find a grade for your formulation
Start with the property that matters most to your process, then review the full PDS and evaluate the selected grade under representative conditions.
EcoTall L1
Low cloud point tall oil fatty acid
A low-rosin feedstock with a controlled cloud point and tighter unsaponifiables limit for applications that require low-temperature clarity of the raw material.
- Lubricant and metalworking-fluid ingredients
- Oilfield and corrosion-inhibitor intermediates
- Alkyd resins, esters and surfactant derivatives
Choose L1 when a specified raw-material cloud-point limit is required. Evaluate finished-product flow and low-temperature performance separately.
EcoTall L1A
Low rosin tall oil fatty acid
A low-rosin feedstock for general industrial conversion and formulation, with a broader unsaponifiables limit than L1 and L1S.
- Alkyd resin and ester synthesis
- Metalworking and corrosion-inhibitor intermediates
- Oilfield chemicals, surfactants and cleaners
Choose L1A for general low-rosin applications when its unsaponifiables limit suits the process. Its typical titer does not establish a cloud-point or pour-point specification.
EcoTall L1S
Pale tall oil fatty acid
A pale, low-rosin feedstock combining a tighter initial-color limit with the same specified cloud-point and unsaponifiables limits as L1.
- Pale alkyd resins and coatings
- Esters and surfactant derivatives
- Lubricant and metalworking-fluid ingredients
Choose L1S when pale starting color and controlled raw-material cloud point are both important. Assess color after processing and in the finished formulation.
EcoTall L3
General purpose tall oil fatty acid
A general-purpose feedstock for industrial systems that accommodate a wider rosin acid range and less restrictive initial-color requirements than the L1 grades.
- Metalworking fluids and lubricant additives
- Oilfield chemicals, corrosion inhibitors and asphalt emulsifiers
- Alkyd resins, cleaners and textile lubricants
Choose L3 when its rosin acid limit suits the formulation. Check emulsion behavior, compatibility and finished-product properties.
EcoTall L5
General purpose tall oil fatty acid
A general-purpose feedstock with a wider permitted rosin acid range than L3, for industrial formulations with less restrictive rosin and color requirements.
- Metalworking fluids and industrial cleaners
- Oilfield chemicals and asphalt emulsifiers
- Alkyd resins, lubricant additives and textile lubricants
Choose L5 where the wider rosin acid limit is acceptable. The limit is a maximum, not a fixed blend ratio or a guarantee of higher actual rosin content than L3.

Surfactants & emulsifiers
Intermediates for industrial soaps, surfactants and formulated systems.
What to check when selecting a grade
- Rosin acids and unsaponifiables. Compare the applicable specification limits with the formulation requirements. Maximum values do not establish a fixed composition; use the supply specification and batch Certificate of Analysis for acceptance.
- Initial color and processing color. L1S offers a tighter initial-color limit. Initial color alone does not establish heat-color stability or resistance to yellowing; check color through the actual process and in the finished product.
- Cloud point, titer and pour point. Cloud point marks the onset of visible haze; titer measures fatty acid solidification. The L1 and L1S raw-material cloud-point limits do not define finished-product pour point, minimum pumping temperature or low-temperature performance. Typical titer values for L1A, L3 and L5 are not cloud-point or pour-point specifications.
- Acid value and reaction quantities. Use the batch acid value to calculate neutralizer or alcohol requirements. Verify conversion, residual acidity, compatibility and finished-product properties in the intended process.
Product data and handling
Request the current PDS for grade-specific limits, typical properties, packaging and storage guidance. Typical properties are descriptive values rather than batch release limits. Review the applicable safety data sheet before use.
For an application review, share the reaction or blending route, rosin and color requirements, storage and transfer temperatures, and the finished-product properties you need to control.
