DRA drag reducing agents for crude and product pipelines

Cestoil drag reducing agents (DRA) manage frictional pressure loss in crude-oil and selected refined-product pipelines. Evaluate throughput within pressure constraints or pumping demand at a comparable flow, with formulation selection based on your fluid and operating conditions.

Application and function

Polymer-based drag reduction acts on turbulent flow within the transported liquid. The objective may be to support a required flow rate within pressure constraints or evaluate pumping demand at a comparable flow.

Formulations serve different fluids and handling conditions. Carrier, low-temperature properties and compatibility should be checked for the selected formulation.

Fluid compatibility and operating conditions

  • Fluid properties and changes in crude or product slate
  • Pipeline configuration, temperature, flow and pressure conditions
  • Injection facilities, pumping arrangement and downstream requirements

Evaluate pressure loss, throughput and pumping demand

Compare treatment response at documented flow and operating conditions. Review the pressure profile and pumping demand together, recording changes that affect the comparison.

A monitored trial should distinguish reduced pressure loss from an operating decision to increase throughput.
