Inhibitors and retarders
Polymerization inhibitors control free-radical reactions in susceptible monomer streams. Retarders provide a separate treatment function and may form part of a combined program.
The appropriate combination depends on process conditions and the period over which control is required. Consider normal operation, throughput changes and extended residence separately.
Match chemistry to the stream
Review monomer composition, solvent environment, temperature profile and addition locations. Account for treatment distribution and finished-styrene requirements.
Storage and transport applications require their own review of temperature, residence time, mixing and inhibitor management.
