Application and function

Scavenger chemistry reacts with targeted sulfur species. Suitable formulations and reaction-product behavior depend on the stream and treatment conditions. Treatment of hydrogen sulfide or mercaptans does not represent removal of all sulfur from the fuel.

Applications can include refined fuels, crude oil and heavier hydrocarbon streams where supported by the selected formulation’s data. Downstream compatibility is part of the selection review.

  • Measured hydrogen sulfide and mercaptan content
  • Stream composition, temperature and water content
  • Contact time, mixing and injection conditions
  • Downstream limits, separation arrangements and reaction-product handling

Evaluate the response

Test representative samples to establish the response. Review the target sulfur species and relevant fuel-quality measures, such as copper corrosion, together with changes in solids or phase behavior.

Use analytical verification of treatment; odor alone is not a verification method. Handling should follow the selected formulation’s safety documentation and site procedures.
